My experience is not a good one. My mini schnauzer Kaite was the world to me. Katie started to vomit her supper once in awhile, I took her to the for a check up and they felt she was probably just undr the weather. A week later Katie was refusing to go up the two stairs from the outside so I was picking her up and carrying her. She was getting very wabbly on her back legs. I immediatly took her to the vet they exrad her and reported she had a fractured lower vertabre, good news it was not life threatning but she needed to be closely looked after and only allowed to stand when she did her business till she healed. Two days later I had her back in fornt legs were stiffening and she was vomiting alot. Took her back to the vet and was told I was panicking for nothing and she have her at home on complete bed rest. Took Katie home again, the front legs continued to stiffen up, managed to get another vet appoitment with a totally different clinic. The new vetet looked at Katie and said immediately she is showing signs of some sort of neurological problem. Katie was bleeding in the brain. The vet put her on cortisone and we hoped this would stop the bleen where ever it is. I took Katie ver.home exhausted I lay down with her Katie died in her sleep before I woke up. Katie was only 18 months. I have lost my friend and I am still trying to reco

my less then two year old very playful teacup chichuachua collapsed saturday she curled in a stiff ball stopped breathing white tounge hanging out and had to have cpr given to her. before we rushed her to animal hospital . they took xrays and bloodtest saying all was fine except a little liver enzymes raised but nothing to cause the symptoms she was showing. she came out of it somewhat. 3 days later she is walking eating and peeing and having bowel movements. What she is not able to do is jump up , walk with out stumbling or wobbling her head droops to her left and she is not as playful or showing her normal playful self like she did that morning she has only barked once and growled a few times when our other dog gets near her and she loves him they play always but no playfulness at all. some say it sounds like seizuer or stroke. can someone please give me a clue what happened to my puppy who went from playing that morning to almost dying an hour later, and still is is not showing her normal behavior.

My dog is 12 years old. He was found lying in his urine and vomit, unable to get up. He was lifted up and brought to our room where he was unable to sit and kept falling to one side. His head tilted to one side as well. His eyes were moving slightly from side to side, but rapidly. He was brought to an emergency vet clinic and blood drawn, placed on IV and ice packs. His temperature was 105. The vet thought he had Vestibular Disease. He remained paralyzed 100% on his back legs and 80% on the front legs. We brought him to an Emergency Veterinary Hospital where a Neurologist administered and MRI and more blood work was done. More IV and ice packs. His temperature fluctuated between 101 and 105 degrees. He was administered antibiotics, valium and other meds to keep him calm.He was diagnosed as having had a stroke, with the damage being just left of the cerebellum. He is still unable to sit up by himself, but is now able to hold his head up unassisted. His front legs show a little movement, but there is no movement of his back legs. He knows me, is happy to see me, his tail now wags back and forth and it may take a while, but I will not give up one minute before the miracle.

my dog was fast asleep when all of a sudden his right side of his body contourted and he was sudddenly awoken. his head was twisted and he looked right into my eyes for what looked like he needed help. i proceeded to take him out for his walk and he urinated. we came inside and he started to play with a toy as if everything was fine. he looked a little foggy so i decided to call his vet. i could have waited until tomorrow, but decided to see him right away. the vet examined him and said he suffered a minor stroke and gave him an injection of aspirin and to follow up with aspirin two times a week. what a scare for someone alone at the time and following my instincts to get some medical help. we will now watch over him 24/7 as we tend never to leave him home alone anyway. thanks for this website as it confered with the vet.

I think my dog may have had a stroke. When I came home from work he was drooling out one side and that side of his face was hanging. When I called the vet they said it was probably just a nerve, but I am not so sure. He has been taking rimadyl for one month and it has made him feel great but now I am afraid to give it to him in case that is what caused whatever is happening. Its been 5 days his face is still hanging and he drools all the time. I wish I knew what to do to help him.

My 17 yr old Lab mix suffered a stroke on June 1 of 2007. It came on suddenly. She had a hard time getting to her feet to go outside. Then she couldn't balance herself. Her bladder let loose as I was helping her get to the door to go utside. Once outside she could not balance at all. This all was so heartbreaking I can't begin to put it into words. We carried her back into the house where I lowered the air conditioning even more, fearing she may have somehow gotten overheated. (although she had not been outside for any amount of time for this to happen, confusion on my part I imagine) We then noticed her eyes darting from left to right quickly. Her heart was beating rapidly enough to be seen by the eye & she was panting. Bless her heart, she still was trying to be silly and play with me.
After a phone call to the vet and an explanation of the symptoms, we quickly took her to the vet office where she was diagnosed. Ultimately we decided to end her misery. We we're blessed to have her in our lives for 17 years and treatment options we're not very optomistic. I now await the return of her cremated body which I will either put into a creamic bust made to her likeness or pour over her favorite pond.
God Bless all and God Bless us animal lovers.
