My 2 yr old shih tzu had a fever & was licking & chewing at her paws alot, i took her to the vet 2 times & they stated that it was allergies & give me some meds for allergies, i use frontline on her, long story short being that the weather has been really hot & she gets over heated i trimmed her fur down more than usual & especially on her paws being that they were red & inflammed, i checked her paws & the lower part of her legs over & over & i found really i mean really tiny bugs stuck to her skin they were in cluster form, i looked info up online & found out that it was chewing lice, i got her some antibiotics from the vet being that she had a fever & was shivering i felt she had an infection, & now she is getting better, i would use her frontline on her once every 2 to 3 months which it states you can do that & also her fleas 7 ticks had never been bad, but know i use the frontline plus every month, which includes getting rid of chewing lice.

My mother had a dog, he was a lab and basset hound mix. He was old and he had a lump on the back of his head that the vet said was just scist. He was constantly chewing and licking and scratching all the time. We thought that it was do mostly because he was getting old and couldn't move around but then he started to smell of rotting flesh. I would recommend following through with a vet to determine if it is serious or just boredome.
