Lick Granulomas - dog health experiences

Lick Granulomas dog experience
Dog Owner:
Molly
Location: Arden Hills/Ramsey/Mn

Molly, a Golden Ret. w/a little Border Collie mix, had scuffed her ankle while outside, at about 1 Yr. It healed slowly. About 4 yrs later she began to lick the area again. She licked incessantly until it was raw. The vet at U of Mn Veterinary who we saw, suggested 2 possible problems: 1 somehow the wound had not healed properly, all those years before, and had developed some kind of an infection which was irritating Molly. 2 It was Psychosematic and would therefor need to be treated by a dog psychologist. Whew!
She tried no. 1 first. Antibiotics in the form of Cephalexin 500 mg. We gave these to her and about 3 days later she stopped licking. We continued the dosage for 2 more wks.
This lasted a few more years and she started again. We had some old pills left and gave her those. Once again the licking stopped within a couple days and she's now over 10yrs old with toughened skin on the wound area but hair covering it.
Happy to report it was a success!
